Have You Fallen For One of These Two Lies? [Video]

How good of a lie detector are you?

If your kids were lying to you, would you be able to tell?

How about a co-worker? Or how about a friend?

The truth is that people lie and it's a part of our fallen nature.

Some lies are worse than others and some people are falling for the worst kind, the ones that ultimately decide where you spend eternity.

Lies like, there's no god, there's no heaven, and there's no hell are examples of lies that have consequences both in this life and the next.

Being a former atheist, I fell for all of these lies and more at one point in my life.

The problem with falling for lies is that they have huge consequences not just in our own lives but also in the lives of others.

Francis Chan thinks that there are two big lies that are happening in our world right now that millions of people are falling for.

Have you ever fallen for these two lies?

Do you know someone that believes them right now?

Watch the video to find out what they are and then read after about how you can protect yourself and lead others to the truth.

2 Ways to Protect Yourself and Lead Others to the Truth

1.  We Aren't Good People

It's easy to look at the world around us and see that it's filled with sinners.

The problem is that many people compare themselves to others and they come to the conclusion that they aren't that bad.

After all, they aren't murderers and adulterers, right?

Or are they?

That's why using God's Law (The Ten Commandments) can be such a powerful tool when witnessing to others.

God sees hating someone as murder and looking at someone with lust as adultery.

The Law is so powerful that the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 3:19-20, "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin."

That's why after you share the law with someone and the Holy Spirit convicts them of sin, then you can move on to share the love of God (the gospel) with them.

2)  God Will Punish Sinners

One objection that I get often when evangelizing is, "Why would a good and loving God send someone to hell?  That would make Him NOT a very loving God."

Sometimes I ask that person, "Hitler, do you think he should go to heaven or should he go to hell?"

They'll say, "Hell."

Then I'll say, "Osama Bin laden, should he go to heaven or should he go to hell?"

They'll say, "Hell."

Then I'll say, "You and I, where should we go, heaven or hell?"

They'll stop and think for a second and say, "Heaven!"

Then I'll say, "You see what you did just there?  You just applied your own standard of morality to three different people.

"We all think that the only people that should go to hell are those who kill, molest, and wreack havoc on others.  But God has a different standard."

Then I go on about how God must punish sin because He is a righteous and Holy God and that He has His own perfect standard.

So if you run into someone that believes God will not punish people for their sins because they died without Christ, try to use any example in which you show someone how their standard of morality is different than Gods.

Sometimes they'll tell you, "Oh, I never thought about it that way."

The Bottom Line

We need to protect ourselves from these two lies and we need to lead others to the truth.

You can show people that they aren't good by asking them a few questions to see if they broke God's holy commandments.

And you can show people that God will punish sin because He's the only one that can judge righteously.

Better yet, if you know someone that needs to get saved, why not send them to Harvest America where they can hear the gospel and have their lives changed forever.

Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest America writes more about this special event on Matt's blog post over here.
